Inside Giro

The thinking behind the ride. A helmet’s shape. The feel of a shoe. The connection between your hands and the handlebars. Behind every Giro product are decisions that shape your experience on the bike. Inside Giro is a closer look at that process. The conversations with athletes. The ideas explored by designers. The testing and attention to detail that turn a concept into equipment you reach for every time you ride.

From concept to the ride

Design begins with an idea and develops through collaboration, testing and refinement. Step inside Giro’s process to see how designers, engineers and athletes shape the equipment we ride in. From early sketches and prototypes to the finer details of fit, airflow and feel, discover the work behind the finished product.

Every detail has a purpose

Good design comes down to how something works when you’re using it. How a helmet fits. Where air moves through a vent. How a shoe feels after hours of pedalling.

At Giro, those details deserve attention. Materials, shapes and adjustments all contribute to the same goal: equipment that feels right for the way you ride.

Ideas put to the test

Product development is a process of questioning, measuring and refining. A promising idea needs to prove itself beyond the drawing board.

For Aerohead II, collaboration with Team Visma | Lease a Bike brought rider measurements and wind-tunnel testing into the design process. Each round of development provided information to refine the helmet’s form and aerodynamic performance.

Developed with riders

The people who use our equipment help shape its development. Working with athletes brings the demands of riding directly into the design process, connecting technical ideas with experience on the bike.

The Coalition Spherical is one example. Input from Giro’s mountain bike team helped inform a full-face helmet developed around the demands of enduro, with close attention to ventilation, weight and fit.

Rethinking helmet design

Advances in protection can begin with rethinking how a helmet is constructed.

Spherical Technology, powered by Mips, uses two liners that can move relative to each other during certain impacts. Developed at the Bell+Giro Dome laboratory in partnership with Mips, the design brings impact management into the helmet’s construction alongside considerations of fit, airflow and comfort.
